Hi,

I'm a PalmDesktop conduit developer. I'm now moving to Windows CE and i'm
trying to understand how the activesync process works.

In the Palm OS world, when the user presses the hotsync button, the conduit
is called and PalmDesktop calls a method in our dll so that our dll can send
and receive data from the pda.

Does WinCE provides something like this? I don't want to synchronize any
kind of data besides my application databases, which are in a proprietary
format (not pocketaccess neither anything else).

I had downloaded and tried the SyncWiz.awx but it creates lots of files and
stuff that i feel that are more than what i really want to do.

Many thanks

Hi,
The simplest way to do this is to take a look at the registry keys that
indicate when ActiveSync is complete. Check out ActiveSync Keys from

Hi Chris,

So, the would to use the AutoStartOnConnect and then the RAPI to do the
synchronization? If yes, is there a rapi newsgroup so i can see messages?

many thanks

Hi,
There's no RAPI newsgroup.  You can get more info on RAPI from MSDN -
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wceactsy/html/c
erefRAPIReference.asp

You wouldn't know how to stop a process on the device, would you? I can
start one going, but I'd prefer to be able to close it before
transferring its data files.

Cheers,

I'm trying to use the Communication library from
http://www.opennetcf.org to do exactly that, and it doesn't work
reliably. I rather suspect that some of the messages from ActiveSync get
sent too quickly and the autostarted app isn't always ready. It works
sometimes though.

My next experiment is to make the app into a Windows service, and have
it just listen for ActiveSync connections. Feel free to email me direct
if you find out anything useful, or want to exchange tips :-)

BTW, if you would prefer commercial components that do the same sort of
thing, there are some at http://www.tmssoftware.com

Cheers,
Jim Cooper
