Installing applications using CeAppMgr.exe as a user

Hi,

I am having a problem using Activesync (3.7.1). My company has deployed
locked down computers, so users only get 'user' level rights on their
workstations. Some users have Pocket PC's that they need to install some
applications to. I am fine allowing them to install apps on their pocket
PC's, in fact I would prefer them to look after them by themselves. The
problem is; when they (with 'user' rights) attempt to run CeAppMgr.exe to
load an application on the Pocket PC, they get a error stating that the
installation files are corrupt. When I attempt with Admin rights, then it is
fine.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Is there a fix that can be applied -
short of having to grant admin rights to the workstation. I am fine with
granting specific rights or permissions where necessary.

Thanks,
-edt

Hi

When logging on a Windows 2000/XP with user rights you do not have
permission to write on localdisk or in the registry. I would start by
granting the user permission to the "c:\program files\microsoft activesync"
folder and see if thats enough. If not you should locate the activesync key
in registry and grant permissions to the user on that one using regedt32
