I'm trying to configure my Pocket PC to synchronise with our Exchange 2003
server. The configuration on the Exchange server & ISA is getting more and
more complicated as I try to support internal and external users,
forms-based authentication and Basic authentication.

The upshot is that I'm currently trying to solve the problems by using a
wildcard certificate so that the Exchange server will use SSL with varying
host names.

However, it looks as if the Pocket PC doesn't like wildcard certificates -
it complains that the hostname doesn't match if I try OMA in PIE, and
ActiveSync just barfs with INTERNET_38.

This is with Pocker PC 2003.

Would the above be a correct statement of how the OS works, or have I missed
something and it is something I can correct?

If the server name in the certificate and the actual server name do
not match, ActiveSync will barf. ActiveSync will also barf if it does
not recognize the certificate authority that created the certificate.
You might get better answers in microsoft.public.exchange.mobility,
however.

I've got the CA side of things handled. That bit works.

So, does the Pocket PC not support wildcard certificates?

You mean something like *.mycompany.com is in the certificate name?
That kinda defeats the purpose of the certificate, and I'm pretty sure
it's not supported.
