Brand new "smartphone", out of the box. Sprint ppc-6700, windows xp,
office/outlook 2003, exchange 2003

We get the errors below when trying to sync to the desktop:

00000E70 - ERROR: Initialization of SSP 'Microsoft Outlook' failed. Error:
0x80140010.
00000E70 - ERROR: Unable to start SSP 'Microsoft Outlook'. Error code:
0x80140010

reinstalling activesync makes little sense since this is a brand new
install, and two month old PC with no activesync ever having been on it, but
I have done it anyways.

Did detect and repair in outlook, which once again made little sense since
two month old, but did it anyways, then reinstall activesync. Still had no
luck.

I can understand having the problems when running weird setups, or anything
else out of the ordinary but this is a simple sync over a usb cable to the
computer. If someone from MS could help me, it would help them to since this
is on their highly publicized windows mobile 5.0 and activesync 4.0.

I have the same phone, basic install went fine.  However mine came from
sprint via UPS, and it was pre-programed,  which means to me someone was
playing with it.

Have you tried a hard reset?
