I saw a post in a forum about AS 4.1 - is it in beta?  What is the current
version of AS?  I'm running 4.0 build 4343.

Thanks

Where did you get the AS v4.0, since the version on the official microsoft
site is 3.8?

I'll go along with this ...

I have watched this group for a while ...and I am still running V3.8,
which seems to be the only version available from Microsoft !

Is V4.0 an "unnoficial" version ?

4.0 was available for download a couple of months ago (pretty sure it was
direct from MS) - I can't remember where - it also comes with any WM5
devices - I just got my 6700.

The 4.1 build 4807 that I'm downloading is unofficial but the 4.0 is
definitely official.  I downloaded it a while ago but it does come with new
WM5 products.

It's here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/4/5/c45f8f83-6383-43d7-840b-cb9638484e4
d/setup.exe

but is still called the Developer preview.

Is that the 4.0 or 4.1?

Anyone know why Microsoft still lists 3.8 as the official version on the WM
web site? Is AS4 still considered beta? Are there problems with it, still
being worked out? (It's hard to imagine more problems than 3.8 has though.)

Is AS4 in any way less stable, more prone to problems than 3.8? Or,
hopefully, does it work better?

If installing AS4 on a computer that has 3.8 installed, should one uninstall
3.8 first? If so, does one lose all settings, partnerships, etc.? Or are
they retained? Or--better not to uninstall 3.8, but install 4.0 over it?

Thank you for your responses.

Hi,
You asked about issues with ActiveSync 4.0.  See
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm

You can upgrade from ActiveSync 3.x.  See
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/activesync4.0overview.htm for
things to consider with the installation.

As usual, IMO, Microsoft has released it AND it's a beta.  I'd say wait for
version 4.5.

AS comes with WM5. Google and you'll find plenty of mirrors.

But remember - due to "security reasons" ActiveSync 4.0 does *not* include
WiFi synchronization anymore. It was either waiting for a solution, patch up
and thus delay WM5 release, or remove wireless sync.

Many initially installing 4.0 have rolled back to 3.8 in the mean time
because of this. Sync with an exchange server remains possible.
