Have you tried a soft reset of the Pocket PC?

Thanks for the reply Chris.
Yes. I have soft reset the PPC. Still having the same problem. I can't
understand why activesync would think that outlook is in use already. I get
the same message even after I sync first thing after a system reboot.

might try the steps http://BevHoward.com/ASync.htm#Resolve to see what
that reports
It has been my experience that something placed in the "notes" field
causes this type of problem... but, for "all" records....
might also try running http://BevHoward.com/ASync.htm#Forms

I can create a simple appointment with no notes and that will be the problem.
Only from the PPC to the computer.
Here is the wording from the error:
The following appointment cannot be synchronized because Microsoft Outlook
information is bein gused be another program. Close all other programs on
your desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists, restart
your desktop computer.
Appointment
<Name of appointment>
Start: <Date/Time>
End: <Date/Time>

That's a pretty clear message... another app on your desktop has the pst
file open exclusively.
If you don't know of another app (such as an office program looking up
names in your contacts) it's also possible that it is a hostile program
such as a mailer virus has mined your data and been too sloppy to close
the database.
Think you will need some outlook specific help on this one.

I have no problems syncing tasks and contacts between the PPC and the
desktop- just appointments- and ONLY from the PPC to the desktop. I run
Ad-aware, spybot and MS anti-spyware at least 3 times/week.
I'm not sure what else to do. Could McAfee or some other program being
causing activesync to think that outlook is in use?

Again, the message is very specific that the issue is on the pc and with
outlook specifically...
Don't think the same situation has been posted here before, so, outlook
would be my target.
I would try closing outlook completely and syncing to see if that may
free the lock... I assume you have rebooted the pc between attempts.
