ActiveSync Hangs on "Looking for Changes"

I currently own a Dell Axim X30. For several months I had no problems with
ActiveSync. Then, not associated with anything I can identify, ActiveSync
would start to hang at the "Looking for Changes" stage of synchronization,
which was shortly followed by an error message stated that AS could not
connect to the mobile device. The problem now occurs all the time.

I am able to sync just fine on my computer at work, but I am unable to sync
with either my desktop or my laptop at home. I can establish guest
partnerships and browse files without a problem, but the problem occurs
whenever I try to set up a standard partnership.

I've tried two PCs (as mentioned), switching out the USB cradle, wireless
syncs (which worked a couple times, but not any longer), soft resets, hard
resets, a ROM upgrade, Outlook Detect-and-Repair, PST file replacement,
Outlook profile modifications, firewall de-activations, startup program
de-activations...everything I can think of or could find anywhere online. If
it just didn't work on the computer at the office I could blame the problem
on the device, but no single thing seems to be the culprit. All three PCs are
running Windows XP SP2. Oh, and I've tried Activesync 3.7, 3.8, and 4.0, with
an installation of 3.8 while the firewall and NAV auto-protect were
de-activated.

If anybody has any ideas on this, I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

While setting up the partnership, don't select any information type.  Check
if the error occurs?

Jonathan,

If are using any storage card, try removing it before attempting to sync.
If that doesn't work, I would suggest you to try and create a new user
account on your computer and then attempt to partner through that user...
see if it partners correctly.

I have tried both of those already - no difference unfortunately.

FYI: I am having hte exact same problem. I was using the PPC-6600, then
upgraded to the 6700 two days ago. I was syncing fine, then today it just
says "looking for changes" continually. When I disconnect the device, it
simply hangs and I have to end task. I hard reset the unit, uninstalled and
reinstalled Active Sync 4.1, and still can not synchronize. Help!

You wouldn't happen to be using an Internet filter, would you?
I found out that that was the problem I was having - I had just installed it
and it was causing the same problem a firewall would.
