For some unknown reason my PPC did a hard reboot and all my memory,
programs, data were wiped clean. When I tried to resync with my PC, it
tried to set up a partnership but said my PPC device name was already in
use. So it switched me to guest. I could not sync the data in Guest mode
and the restore function came up with an invalid file message. What do I
do to get my data back on the PPC?

Looks like you have performed a backup using ActiveSync, then you will need
to restore the backup file in the guest mode.

The dialog you witness regarding PPC device name already in use is explained

New partnership & device name.
Every time the thing hardboots on me, I just create a new partnership, I
think I had to give the device a new name too.
