I recently updated my from Outlook 2002 to 2003. Now I only can sync when
Outlook is not active.
Activesync activates Outlook an it still keeps running as proces. When I
start Outlook some buttons are greyed out. I have to kill Outlook proces
with the taskmanager and restart outlook to activate the buttons.
I found that the wcesmgr.exe start outlook in embedded mode and when I
started Outlook the normal way it is started with the option /recycle. May
that be the problem and how to resolve this.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Outlook and Activesync but the problem
is stil there.

* Are these buttons created by Outlook add-ins?
* Which version of ActiveSync are you using?
* Have you applied the latest Service Packs?

1) The default Outlook buttons new, reply ,reply all and forward are greyed
out.
2) Activesync 3.8
3) Outlook 2003 SP2 (11.6568.6568)

First I thought this problem has a relationship with activesync. But when I
take out my PDA from the craddle (activesync is inactive) I discovered that
after a period of time the buttons are greyed out. I find this article in
the KB of Microsoft
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;827310&spid=2520&sid=208
where they discribe that Outlook 2003 has a memory problem.
When there is no PDA in the craddle the memory-usage is slowly increasing
and after a period of time Outlook locks.
When I connect the PDA the memory usage increasing directly to the maximum
and outlook is locked.

Interesting find. This is the first time I am reading such an issue where
ActiveSync is causing the default Outlook buttons to be greyed out. Issues
with respect to Outlook add-ins not loading has been documented earlier -
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329098
I would also suggest you also try posting in microsoft.public.outlook forum
for additional help. If you find a solution I would appreciate if you would
share it.
