The error information is useful. Don't leave it unreported. Are you using
a VPN? What firewall, specifically? If the Windows XP firewall, it's
better to leave it on and let AS4.1 install set itself up to work with the
firewall.

I'm running BlackICE and no Windows firewall, with Symantec antivirus 9. I'm
on a corporate network, patched into the LAN. I'd hate to think about trying
to configure this beast across a VPN!

OK. I got the initial synchonization to work by tweaking the BlackICE
Firewall port settings. However, I still can't synchronize "on demand". I can
hook up the device as many times as I like, but it still won't initiate a
connection, and when I attempt to connect manually, it can't find it over the
USB connection. 'Bout ready to return this device and throw in the towel, so
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So, it will sync when connected, but not on the occurrence of some other
event?

It will sync on connection after rebooting the PC. Once it has connected and
sync'ed, you can forget it until the PC is rebooted again. What a piece of
crap!

Well, the best I can offer is that you should capture the logs from the
%tmp% folder of the form wce*.* and call MS support. This doesn't happen
for everyone, so if there are any other unique characteristics that you can
adjust, that might get you fixed up.

Finally got th sync working. My Symantec Antivirus kept re-enabling "file
system auto protect" even after I had manually shut it off. Liking the device
better now. Maybe it'll make it thru the week without meeting the hammer
after all!
