Hi. I'm new to the group, and I would appreciate some help if possible
with an ActiveSync problem I'm experiencing. I just purchased a new
Sprint PPC-6700, and I'm trying to sync it up with my work network.
After entering the required information in ActiveSync set-up and
directing it to sync up, I get the following error message and support
code:
"Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to
synchronize with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server
administrator. Support Code: 85010006"
I'm using the version of ActiveSync that came with the installation
disc (4.1, I think), and I've downloaded the newer Beta version. Same
problem with both. No syncing with the network happens. No e-mail,
calendar, contacts, etc. We're using MS Outlook 2002 SP-2.
The IT department at my job is having no luck diagnosing this, as all
of the server settings should be fine. I thought I'd see if anyone here
has some thoughts. Oh, and my IT guys tell me that we're running MS
Exchange Server 2000, not 2003. Sprint tells me this should not be a
problem, but....
Anyway, thanks for any help!

85010006 is HTTP_405 - "method is not allowed with HTTP".
You cannot use Server ActiveSync with Exchange 2000 - you must be
using Exchange 2003.

Rob - Thanks. Just so I'm 100% clear, the problem *is* that we're still
running Exchange 2000, and not Exchange 2003? So Sprint technical
assistance is off its gourd when it tells me otherwise? Any hope for
getting the phone to sync up until we upgrade to Exchange 2003? Thanks
again!

Only Exchange 2003 has Server ActiveSync. There was a separate product
called Mobile Information Server (long since discontinued) that ran
with Exchange 2000 to provide Server ActiveSync - in Exchange 2003 MIS
was merged into Exchange.

Hi,
Exchange 2003 is the only server that is supported to sync with Windows
Mobile 5.0 like your 6700.
I would suggest that you consider upgrading the server to Exchange 2003.
Another workaround is to sync with your desktop via Outlook and ActiveSync
4.x however you cannot sync outside the office.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the help. I forwarded this info to my IT
department, and they said that an upgrade to Exchange 2003 is planned
for mid-June. I'll wait it out and cross my fingerst that things work
out properly after the upgrade is complete.

Hi,
Make sure that IT plans on installing Exchange 2003 SP2. This release adds
the ability to push e-mail to your device.

Ah, OK. I'll mention that to them. Hopefully, that's what they're doing
anyway. Thanks for the tip.

Because of the error code, you answered the question "Why can't my phone
sync with Exchange". Upgrading the server to Exchange 2003 was perhaps the
correct answer technically, but didn't solve the real problem.
The question should have been just "Why can't my phone sync?"
One of my users had the same problem appear after months of sync'ing
successfully. it turns out that the device had somehow been changed to sync
with Exchange Server instead of with the users workstation. I had to
disconnect the device and go into ActiveSync Options > Connections. Once I
unchecked the boxes for Exchange Server and checked the boxes fot his
workstation, the phone was able to sync properly again.
