ActiveSync 4.5 beta 2 does not sync the contents of appointments

When I enter an appointment in my (Outlook 2003) calendar at home, I insert
some specifics about the appointment within the appointment itself.

E.g.
Appointment title "Meeting Vodafone"
Appointment information: Address data, telephone, name of person, subject of
meeting and such.

When I enter such an appointment at home then it gets correctly synched into
the smartphone (I-Mate SP5) and then it gets correctly synched into my
calendar at work.

When I enter such an appointment at work then the appointment is synched
into my phone, but without the inserted information. Obviously the inserted
information then also doesn't appear in my calendar at home.

Both PCs use Outlook 2003, the smartphone runs Windows Mobile 5 with
Papyrus.

The PC at home uses ActiveSync 4.2
The PC at work uses ActiveSync 4.5 beta 2

Conclusion: Activesync 4.5 does not sync the additional information into the
smartphone.

Any takers?

Schematic:

PC Home -> AS 4.2 -> Smartphone -> AS 4.5 -> PC Work

This synchronisation works fine. All information arrives at all expected
places.

PC Work -> AS 4.5 -> Smartphone -> AS 4.2 -> PC Home

This synchronisation sequence loses the information that is within the
appointment. The information never arrives on the smartphone.

My guess would be that there is a conflict between the versions of AS.
I have noticed that all information gets transferred find from my
computer to phone and phone to computer [WM5 PPC & AS 4.5b XP ], but
when I try to connect the PPC phone to a computer that has 4.2
installed, I have no joy.
I'd encourage you to install the same version of AS on both computers.

I take my phone to work with me. I enter an appointment on the computer at
work (which has AS 4.5). I synchronise the computer at work with the WM5
smartphone. The appointment is synched, its contents is not.

Question: Which part of the above involves As 4.2 ?
Answer: None.

Conclusion: It is not related to AS 4.2. It is related to AS 4.5

If it works for you: Congratulations. But the bug is there nonetheless.

He's saying, I think, that you might not be running AS4.5 at both PCs,
which, in fact, is what you said in your first message.

I understood, but the remark is totally irrelevant.

In fact, I just installed ActiveSync 4.5 beta 2 on my home pc and now this
system also does not synchronise the complete appointment information
anymore.

The appointment is correctly synchronised to the SP5, but the description
from within the appointment is not. Instead, the appointment on the SP5 is
empty.

To finalise this: In uninstalled ActiveSync 4.5 from my home PC and
re-installed ActiveSync 4.2. Now everything works fine again.

Unfortunately enough I can not replace AS 4.5 at work because AS 4.2 won't
work on my business laptop. ActiveSync 4.5/beta does work, but unfortunately
enough it does not correctly synchronise the appointments.

Note that my WM5 device is using the Dutch language. Activesync is US
English. Maybe AS 4.5 does not like the language difference as works
correctly on english WM5 devices. As said, AS 4.2 (also english) works fine
on my home PC.

I had the same problem and was unable to uninstall 4.5b with jumping through
hopes. I finally got it unistalled and then cleaned the registries.
Afterwards I reinstalled 4.2 under a new filename in the program file
directory. Everything works better and all the notes sync with the
appointment and tasks.

Hi Peter,

I hope this is not a silly answer, but maybe the problem was with your
conflict resolution settings.  It may have been overriding your most recent
changes.
