Dear Steve,
I truly appreciate your detailed reply but for some reason, the item
"Activate Information Rights Management" still does not appear. I believe I
have met all the conditions you outlined except the part about my notebook
being connected to our corporate network. I activated IRM on my desktop by
using my Microsoft Passport since I read on Outlook Help that this could be
done. Please see below:
Understanding IRM
IRM is an extension for the Microsoft Office system applications of Windows
Rights Management. There are two paths to implementing IRM with the Microsoft
Office system. Microsoft offers an IRM service that, as of this writing, is
free. This path requires that you have a Microsoft Passport to send or view
IRM-protected messages. You must log in to the service with your Passport
credentials to download a certificate, which Office Outlook 2007 uses to
verify your identity and enable the IRM features. The second path is to
install Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running the Rights Management Service
(RMS) on Windows Server 2003. With this path, users authenticate on the
server with NTLM or Passport authentication and download their IRM
certificates.
Is there something I am missing? I really want to use this feature on my WM6
handheld.
Eagerly awaiting your reply...

Well, I hate to disappoint, but I looked into it some more and found that
our solution only supports authentication with an RMS server. The primary
focus of this feature was for corporate environments. I will pass on a
feature request to add the ability to auth with Passport, but I can't
comment on when or if this will be done.
In order to get it working will require that you either join your notebook
to a network with an RMS server that can offer you the cert you'll need to
read IRM protected email, or partner your WM device to another computer on
that network.

Thanks again Steve. As an alternate solution, is the Pocket Internet Explorer
capable of reading email with restricted permissions much like IE for
desktops?
