I am trying to download the correct version of Windows
Media Player for an IPaq Pocket PC.
I have tried the HP handheld, the Compaq handheld, and
finally one just designated for Pocket PCs.
I get the error "Connected Device is not supported with
this version of Windows Media player".
I have an IPaq Pocket PC, about 1 year old running
Pocket PC version 3.0.11171
My questions are:
1. Is this a supported device? (I assume it is) and if so
2. What is the correct version of media player to
download?
thanks,
Greg

That is a problem with the connection between the device and the version of
Windows Media Player on your desktop. There are various conflicts between
different versions, but usually if you have the same version on both devices
then they connect. Otherwise, you can always transfer the files with
ActiveSync's explore function.

Hello.
I have a Pocket PC Ipaq (3600) with the same OS version as yours
(3.0.11171), and a Medial Player that works.
Please, email me for details.

Greg...the way I read your post sounds a similar problem to mine when I
first received my 3660 - it came with PPC2002 but no install disk.
The WMP you are after is version 8 - Not the 7.1 (I had the same message you
reported when I installed this on my Ipaq) nor 9 available on the MS website
www.pocketpc.com . There is a version 8.1 upgrade listed, but you need to
have v8 installed - this is on the PPC install disk. So basically you can't
get what you need from the MS website.
I managed to score an install disk and got v8 running no sweat.
Alternatively, you could check out one of the many alternatives that i have
seen noted in these groups - I am going to shortly because of WMP limited
file capabilities..
Cheers,
Gavern
