There is a freware program that you can download to play midi files:
PocketMidi.  It takes a little setup as you have to also download patch
files which take up anywhere from 4 to 16 to 32 megabytes depending on the
quality of the patches you want.  I had a problem with the program on my PPC
2003, but it worked great on my old PPC with the patches on a cf card.
