I'm trying to use the Dell Axim via a Yiso CF2031 Sprint
Connection Card to stream online radio stations vis a vis
Mobile Real Player 1.1(trial release with video drivers)
or Windows Media 9 Series from Windows Pocket PC Premium
Edition 2003 cd.
Anyone-help!- know of wireless connection crystal clear
streaming ability-outside jagged(fading in and out) sound
transmission- a la crummy AM radio reception? This is
audible at 70-93 kbs wireless transmission on 20k web
station audio stream, and no change even with 16k web
audio connection. Real Player 'Properties' is set at CDMA
(provider network) for 40kbs, much higher than the minimum
16-20kbs required. Windows Media Mobile 9 Series defaults
under the 'Properties' setting displaying the same
transmission rate of the web radio station, or 2-3 kbs
higher.
I do research, and it's a great help to be able to jam
around the company IT firewall giving a keen, timeless
focus. Any clarification would be much sought and gladly
clarified. Nearly $1000 investment this year-2 yr. plan-
under wireless plan to get this to work.
I've reviewed in other posts possibly Merlin Novatel 201
or Sierra Wireless 550/555 have found better prior use;
though, overall I'm looking for eveness/consistency of
bandwith streaming from Sprint, if this is possible(Could
there be a setting modified-fixed, static address?). I got
a mobile antenna booster on the Dell Axim currently, and
I've only achieved 70-93 kbs signal strength on full 400
Mhz processor setting. Although, the sprint connection
setting only showed two bars/out of 4-5 maximum signal
bars. Would the Sierra card or Novatel allow for better
reception (bar strength display) or any other added
accessory, component boost the signal? Thanks for any
assistance you might provide,
it's a great asset to furthering my work.

You're better off staying with the cf2031 cards, most of the other cards
don't even have drivers for the pocketpc and you would have to use a cf to
pcmcia adapter just to get them to work in your dell. Also the bottom line
with real player for the pocketpc is that it sucks. If you want to get some
good sound I'd check out stations on both live 365 and shoutcast. You can
use gsplayer http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA032810/index.htm (which has
just been updated 4 days ago) to play the streams. Hope this helps, I also
use a 2031 card in my ipaq and while many of the places I wanted to listen
to were using real, I've found some much better ones and also some of the
ones that I was listening to using real on live 365.
