I have an Asus pnp800 with onboard sound....also have a sb live card with
the front piece (midi in, out etc). Would the sound be better coming from
my sb live or the onboard? thanks... John

Usually the SB Live card.

What do your ears tell you?

Unfortunately, my ears do my no good as I have not shut off my onboard sound
and installed the sb live card yet. I was looking for opinions from anyone
who might have already done so. John

There's every chance it will be the SoundBlaster, but an idea of what the
on-board sound chip is, and which SoundBlaster it is would help. Remember
most standard computer speakers are cheap and crap- you may need decent
speakers to notice any difference.

The advantage of a separate sound card is that the cpu has less to do
comparing the onboard sound. I decided to use a SoundBlaster live 5.1
although my MSI 865 has 5.1 on board.

I don't think this is right. As I undersyand it, the onboard sound is the
equivalent of adding the components from a separate card and placing them in
the motherboard.

I'm kinda tired. I was up all night trying to round off infinity. Then
I got bored and went out and painted passing lines on curved roads.

And from that site "Some of them handle sound via the CPU"
So how many? Which? This could be a very small proportion.
