Problem streaming radio in WMP8

I have a problem playing my favourite radio station on my Compaq Ipaq
running Windows CE 2002 and Media Player 8.

The problem is that when i click on the link in pocket IE i download
and save the asx file which then opens in WMP only to get the message
that WMP can't find the file. If i then open the asx file manually i
get the same message so i am assuming WMP is having problems finding
the external file to stream from?

I have tried using other asx compatible programs such as WinamPAQ,
GSPlayer2, Pocket Music and CEPlaylist all of which report no errors
but also do not play any radio either. They search for a short time
and then just stop searching.

I do have the Ipaq using the internet form the cradle and have played
streaming MP3's and video files from the internet as well as connected
to MSN and surfed extensively.

I only have the Ipaq cradled because i have yet to buy a Wi-fi compact
flash card. I wanted to get the thing to work before i pay out £50 for
a card in case it is money wasted.

Is this problem perhaps because it is using the cradle? Would be a
pretty weird problem if it was but not impossible i guess.

I would be grateful for any help you can provide. The link to the
radio station, which is a talk radio station in London, England called
LBC (London Broadcasting Company) is:

Many thanks,

It's using windows media audio 9 - I'm not too sure that WM8 suppprts
windows audio 9 codecs. I wouldn't expect winampaq or any other app to
support these streams either, as they are not mp3 streams.

Hi Neil!

Thanks for the feedback! At least i know what features to look out for
in a 3rd party player.

Is it possible to use WMP9 on Windows 2002?

Cheers,

If your pocketPC there was a thread a short while ago which I think said no,
but check through the archives.

I checked back in the archives but i could not see any posts but my

but thanks for the feedback.

I dont think so, it only seems to be available for WM2003. The only
option I can think of is to get hold of a ROM upgrade for your PPC
from the manufacturer. Any new ROM with WM2003 will come with windows
media 9 by default. Some kind of built in obsolescence.

Hi again!

Thanks for the suggestion! I will email Compaq/HP in the morning and
hope for something positive from them.

Many thanks!

I'm sorry to bring you bad news, but in the .pocketpc newsgroup
you stated you were using the iPAQ 3660. Alas Windows Mobile
2003 Software for Pocket PC has never been released for the 3600
series of devices. So the only upgrade I see possible, is to
upgrade your complete device.
