It won't, ever. Grab a copy of 'PocketTV' which can play mpeg files.

or use windows media encoder to convert mpg to another format that is
320*240 (where is a wizard).

Sure that would work, but pocket TV (or even Betaplayer) is a much
smaller download and won't require him to keep re-converting files all
the time ;-)
