Yes infuriating that the PPC areas redirect to the XP media player
download. I've mentioned this but no action seems to have occurred
form the MS web teams.

Irrespective though, there's no download of WMP9 for pocket PC
available. It's provided as part of WM2003 operating system, which is
customised and provided by your device supplier ... However : Toshiba
were offering WM2003 2nd edition for users of some devices.

Your best bet if it's a must-have is to check the toshiba site to see
if theres a WM2003/SE ROM update (a complete operating system
reinstall, which can be risky) - that is available for your e740

I also own a Toshiba e740.  There is NO update to WM2003.  Toshiba cites a
hardware incompatibility between the e740 and WM2003.  Basically early
adopters of the e740 got screwed, because as soon as WM2003 came out, so did
the e750, which supported WM2003.  I would love WMP9.  But I'm going to sell
my e740 shortly, and get an HP iPaq h6315.  I like iPaqs much better now that
HP has acquired Compaq.

OK, just remember that all HP devices are *not* b eing upgraded to
WM2003/SE ... HP (and Dell) took a decision not to offer the upgrade,
even for (recent) purchasers of current stock devices.

Just a thought ;-)

Wow!  Did not know THAT.  Do you know if it was because the hardware really
wouldn't support it (as was the case for the e740), or if it is just a
corporate decision?  If that latter is the case, that makes me REALLY mad
that all they have to do is provide a software download, and they won't do
it.  Even Toshiba provided a ROM update for the little upgrade whatever it
was for PPC2002 (the only difference I really knew was WMP8 to WMP8.5).

Well speaking only for the Dell, I've got an Axim X3i (802.11 Wifi no
bluetooth). The only difference between that and the X30 which gets
WM2003SE is that the X30i comes with bluetooth (as do recent European
X3i's) and that the X30 runs up to 625Mhz with a higher processor
speed but effectively the same processor. Identical memory
specifications.

So, no, it's not a hardware limitation (the X3s all have 64meg ROM,
about 35 meg is actually in use).
