Filter contacts permanently

Hey guys,
I have contacts from Outlook from all over the world. Is there a way I know
how to filter them inside the contact program but the change is only
temporary for one view. I have them arranged in Categories so its easier to
organize them. Is there a way to make it permanent until I decide to view
all the categories at once? I can't find the way to display only what I want
always and not just temporary for one view.

Thanks much for your help,

Teo

Unfortunately this is not currently supported - filtering is not persisted
when you navigate away from the contacts application.  Just in case you
haven't tried it yet, I would recommend filtering by typing in a users name
(it will filter as you type from all categories), but I know this doesn't
address your actual concern.  Sorry!

The inbuilt contacts app does not do this, but a third party software named
Pocket Informant can do.  You can set up and save a view of contacts with a
filter, so that it shows just one category.  Do this for each category and
you can view either by category or all at once.
