Hello,
I have an iPAQ 4350 that I would like to use to connect to both the Internet
and to my home PC(s) in order to browse it. Of course, the iPAQ comes with
built-in wireless network capabilities.
I DO NOT wish to use dial-up capabilities (i.e., no modem). I would just
like the internal Wi-Fi card to communicate with my LAN so that I my browse
folders on the network and access the Internet.
I have DSL.
Here is the following hardware info:
Linksys Wireles Access Point Model WAP11
Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Rounter Model # BEFSR81
Software:
I have one PC which runs W2K Server and the workstations run W2K Pro.
ActiveSync 3.7.1
PocketPC 2003 Premium w/ Outlook 2002
I have successfully synchronized the PDA to one of the workstations via USB.
Can anyone shed any light on how to do this?
Thanks,
Mini

Additional information:
We have been able to connect a laptop via the Access Port using a wireless
LAN card to browse the LAN and the Internet.
When I use the File Explorer on the PDA in order to access shared
directories on the LAN, I get the following message:
"VPN Server Problems. Verify your user name and password, and try again."
When I enter a good URL in IE on the PDA, I get the following message:
"The page you are looking for cannot be found."
--------
The WAP11's ESSID is "MyESSID".
Under Connections, Advanced Tab, & Network Card Button, the PDA has a
Wireless Network entry of "MyESSID" that shows up as connected.
Network Access to Access points is allowed.
-----------
On the WAP11:
WEP is disabled (for now).
Authentication Type: Open system and shared key.
Operational Mode: Access Point
The "Link" LED is a solid amber color (The access point is successfully
connectd to a device via the LAN port. However, it NEVER flickers, which
would indicate network activity.
The "Act" LED would normally be lit to green to show that other wireless
devices are accessing the Access Point and would normally flicker when data
is being sent back and forth. The "Act" LED has NEVER lit up for my PDA.

Yet more info:
I assigned a specific IP address.
The subnet mask matches that of the LAN & the WAP11.
The default gateway IP address matches IP address of theWAP11.
The DNS IP is the same one assigned to my wired networked PCs.
The WINS IP is that same IP that is assigned to the workstation on the LAN
that has an ActiveSync 3.7.1 partnership with the PDA (I have only been able
to synchronize it via the USB cable).
Hope that this helps.

Update;
I used the vxUtil app. Here is what I found.
Pinging from PDA whether connected to cradle or disconnected from cradle
(AS):
Request timed out when pinging to DNS IP, Desktop IP, WAP11 IP
Good for PDA IP & loopback.
Lookup:
When connected to cradle, I could look up the server and all
workstations on the LAN.
When disconnected, got the message "Could not get IP address!" for the
same machines.
Get HTML:
When in cradle, got the following message:
Get HTML:
URL: http://www.abcnews.com
Result:
HTTP/1.1 302 Moved temporarily
Server: Netscape-Enterprise/4.1
Date:...
Location: http://abcnews.go.com
Content-length:0
Context-type: text/html
Connection: close
When disconnected from cradle got the following msg:Could not get IP
address!"
Thanks,

I am experiencing a very similar or identical problem:
DNS does not work on the iPAQ (though it does work on all other wi-fi
pc/devices), but if the IPv4 address is provided directly, web pages
load properly.
How did you resolve the problem?
Thanks,
