network shares problem

Hey, how come I ask the following question, I don't get any answers, and my
post gets "deleted" after only a couple of days?

Let me try it one more time:

I connected to a network file share using my IPAQ 2210 and wireless
network card.  It originally asked me for a username, password, and domain
name.   The default was to save password.  Now it no longer asks for a
username and password and tries to use the original username and password.
Too bad for me, my password was changed by the administrator (automatically
needs to be updated and cannot use the previous password).  How do I delete
the current username and password stored on my PDA so that it will again ask
for a new username and password for that file share?  I'm running Pcoket PC
2003 Premium.  Any suggestions?

Your post is not deleted, your settings are most likely incorrect. I can see
your post from 12/17/2003 at 2:19 PM Help with deleting username and
password for connection to file share over network. Most likely you have an
option called something like "Hide read post" turn on. Or you might have
something like delete read messages turn on.

Hard to say why you never got a response, perhaps their is no good response.
Perhaps people didn't like the tone of your post. Perhaps people thought you
should have done a Google search, on this question.

When things are not working the way they should a Hard reset will return
your iPAQ to an out of box configuration. That's one way to reset your user
name. You can also try simply deleting the Network connection (My Work
Connection) and then recreating it, so write the values down first. This
will sometimes also do what you want, but I don't have a hp 2210 to try this
on, so I can't say for sure it will work.

Mr. Hetttel,

Thanks for the response.  Forgive my naivety about deleting past read
messages, I'm still not sure how to set that correctly.

With regard to the network shares,
I can't delete the work connection -- not an option -- "delete settings" is
ghosted out.  I can delete other connections (found under Network
Management) but not "My Work Network" or "My ISP" connections -- looks like
they are default connections or something.  I have created new connections
and tried to connect to the network shares under those, but I have the same
problem -- seems it doesn't want to "forget" the username and password
settings I originally used when mistakenly selected "save password."

Since it looks like I am going to have to do a hard reset anyway -- a
process I have done in the past and literally taken hours to re-setup my PDA
and workstation -- I thought: what would be the harm to go into the registry
and modify a key value or two.  Worst case is I mess up the registry and
need to do a hard reset.  Any suggestions on what keys I need to change to
get my HP2210 (with PPC 2003) to forget the saved network share username and
password?

Looks like you work for Microsoft.  I would imagine someone there knows
where this is stored on the device and how to delete it.  I know once I get
this reset I will be extra careful not to save password when connecting, but
it is the default, and one slip of the stylus and ...

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Actually, if your admin changed the password, and the shares being
served have user-level authentication, the Pocket PC should re-ask for
the password.  When the PPC tries to authenticate the share, it should
fail authentication and ask for a password.  I, on the other hand have
the opposite problem.  I try to authenticate to Samba shares, and when
the device is soft-reset or power-cycled, it ALWAYS asks for the
password.  In my case it seems that that root of the problem, is in
how PPC 2003 sets the NETBIOS name.  Under PPC 2002 the NETBIOS node
name of the device on the network was set to whatever the Device ID
was set to.  Under PPC 2003 however, it is set to _CERDRXXXXXXXX where
X = a hex digit.  Every time the PPC reboots, it seems to pick a
different value for XXXXXXXX, so that there always is a unique NETBIOS
name.  Unfortunately, with user-level authentication under Samba, it
checks to see if the node trying to authenticate with a password has
done so before.  If it has, and it's the same password, Samba does not
force it to authenticate again.  In this case, since the node name
keeps changing, Samba keeps thinking that a new node is trying to
authenticate, and it challenges it to enter valid username and
password info again.  Can anyone tell me if there is a way to set the
NETBIOS name to the Device ID like it was in PPC 2002?
