Authenticating h5555 with no VPN

Hi,

I have a Pocket PC (iPAQ h5555) and I have set a wireless
connection to my Toshiba Satellite 1955-S803 (which has
integrated Wi-Fi 802.11b but NOT Bluetooth).

I can explore my Toshiba's hard drive even when my iPAQ
is off the cradle, so the connection must be OK.
However, if I try to access the Internet (which is
connected via modem to a dial-up, and whose card is
SHARING Internet with the wireless adapter in my
Toshiba), then I will only be able to surf from my iPAQ
IF it is in the cradle. The moment I remove it, the
pocket Internet Explorer goes no where.

The same thing happens with ActiveSync: it only works
when iPAQ is cradled although it should work when it
isn't as well - since there is a wireless connection.

My appraisal of this situation (and here is where I need
some advice) is that somehow, when I put it in the
cradle, there is an authentication (which then allows the
Pocket PC to access the Internet via the shared card and
also to perform the ActiveSyncing). Short of having a
VPN - which I do not have right now - how can I
authenticate the ìPAQ so my Toshiba realizes it should
allow more permissions to the iPAQ? Is this the crux of
the problem?

Thanks,

Juan Dent

First go through this and be sure it is configured as this.
http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003/Connection_Manager/ConnectionManager.html
Note that after you do these steps, IMHO you need to tap on the "OK" until
you reach the "X". Tap the "X" and then soft reset.

Then do this;
http://members.cox.net/ajarvi/WM2003/ActiveSync/WM2003ActiveSyncConfiguration.html
Note only change the values in RED if needed. Your IP address for your PC
WLAN card must be 192.168.0.1 not the 192.168.0.11 shown in this guide.

I updated the Connection Manager configuration procedure to reflect David's comments about exiting
completely and executing a soft reset...

Hi,

Followed all instructions with no luck!
Still cannot ActiveSync and also cannot surf Internet if
off the cradle.

I am thinking that perhaps selecting the "Allow network
(Ethernet) and Remote Access Service(RAS) server
connection with this desktop computer" in ActiveSync
Connection Settings might be hooking up the ActiveSync to
the Local Area Network card in my Toshiba - which is NOT
the wireless card - and therefore will not accept me as
part of that network: denying me access when attempted
through the wireless adapter.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot for all your help so far. We might be close!!

OK; I think you need to get vxUtil from www.cam.com and either post your
results from Functions | Info... | or e-mail them to me.

The ActiveSync configuration procedure has been modified to include a note about the local IP
addressing scheme.
