Sharing files between ppc and xp

I'm trying to share files between my ipaq4150 and my windows xp desktop over
a wireless network.  Sending emails and surfing the net is fine on my ppc.
But I can't seem to get the desktop to see the ppc in the network.  Plus,
when I type the desktop's network name in the ppc's file finder I get ...
"Cannot connect ... In order to connect to your network you will need to
configure a vpn connection."

First you will not be able to access the 4150 file system from your desktop directly without being
in an ActiveSync session. You can use ActiveSync Explore or navigate to the PPC from Windows "My
Computer" once you ActiveSync your device...

To access shared network files/folders on your PC wirelessly open File Explorer on the 4150 and tap
the right-most small icon at the bottom. The one that looks like hand holding a trash can. Note the
shares must be setup on the desktop in order for this to work and that you can only cut-n-paste/copy
between devices, not open files.

If you want to open files across the network look at third-party applications like Resco Explorer
($$$) or Netrunner (FREE). Resco comes free on the companion CD with some iPAQs like the iPAQ 5555.
Otherwise go to these pages for downloads...

Make sure your Connection Manager is setup correctly for all of this to work right...

Also, some folks have problems accessing network shares if their PocketPC is still using the default
ID of "Pocket_PC". See the "WINS Naming Issues" section of this page for help renaming your PPC...

Thanks very much for your prompt response.  I've checked the connection
manager as you suggested and tried to connect to the network using the PPC's
file explorer and I get a message entitled 'Network' saying 'Connecting to
the Server'.

This stays for a while (seems like a couple of minutes, maybe more) and then
I get a message 'The network path was not found' and then when I click 'Ok'
I get 'Network resource cannot be found or you do not have persmission to
access the network.  Contact your network administrator'.  When I check the
workgroup members on my desk top the PPC is not listed.

Are you connected to your local network wirelessly when you get this message?
Can you ping the desktop your trying to access? Are you running any personal
firewall software on the desktop?

Any further help you can give me most welcome, should the XP terminal
display the ppc in the network's group, if so how do I get it to?
