Wireless sync & Firewalls

Hi

Can any one help me to allow active sync to work correctly through a
firewall (I'm using XP firewall and Trend Internet Security f'wall).

I can sync wirelessly when both are disabled, but not so when either is
enabled.

I understand that the problem lies with allowing WCESCOMM.exe unrestricted
access, but can't figure out how to do it, or which tcp ports to open up.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers

PAUL :-)

Look at the "Known TCP/IP Ports" section of this page...

In addition, these pages from the TrendMicro support pages may be of interest...

Lastly, with Windows XP SP2 you add the following to the Exceptions list in the Windows Firewall.
ActiveSync..

C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\WCESMgr.exe

Connection Manager...

C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exe

Perhaps you can do something similar with the TrendMicro FW...

Many thanks.  I've done as you said and all is working fine now.  I'm not
going with SP2 yet - too many horror stories!  Maybe I'll wait for SP3!

Cheers

Good to hear its working for you. There are a lot of good reasons to install SP2.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/overview.mspx

You can still use your existing personal firewall instead of the SP2 Windows Firewall... I have SP2
running on both of my home machines, one XP Pro and one XP Home, with out any problems whatsoever...
