Hello,

i have the following problem with my iPAQ 4700.

I have installed a wireless network at home.
I don't broadcast my SSID and have WEP enabled as also MAC address filtering
as security on my wirelles router.
With my laptops i can establish a wireless connection to the router.

When I set the settings in my iPAQ for my wireless network, I get a strange
number as IP address and can't get a working connection.

At my work, where is a wireless network without MAC address filtering and
with SSID broadcast, I can establsih a connection.

Anyone an idea what i am doing wrong or what is the problem.

Just basically, you are getting a weird IP because you are not able to get
one from your DHCP server, which in your case is the router. That could be
due to the SSID not being set on the PPC, the WEP being wrong, or the MAC
address not being loaded as authorized on the router/AP.

I'd shut the WEP and Mac filtering off for the moment and see if you can
connect. Then turn on one or the other, to see if it still works. Then turn
the other back on. If it doesn't work with either of those on, there's a
problem with the value on the PPC.

Well,

the SSID is entered corectly, The WEP key also and the correct MAC addres is
granted acces on my router.
So this makes my problem so strange.
But I'm going to take the steps as you mentioned to locate the problem
correctly.

Thanks already.

Anybode more suggestions.

If you are pretty sure you have all those things right, you could try
entering static IP, Subnet mask, gateway IP, and DNS server #s. How to do
that on a 4700, you're on your own ;). You might also benefit from
vxIPconfig (which has a release and renew option for DHCP) and vxUtil, both
of which are free at www.cam.com.  I still think shutting off the probable
problems and seeing what happens is faster...Assuming it works with all of
the security off of course.  If not, there have been routers that don't play
nicely with PPCs, regarding DHCP handling. Often a firmware update helps
that.

I have seen many problems with Pocket PCs trying to connect to networks that
don't transmit the SSID. Try to begin transmitting it for checking if this
is your problem. If it begins suddenly to work, I don't know a solution for
working without transmitting the SSID.
