I just upgraded my 5450 with PPC 2003. Everything seems to be working fine,
however the wireless utility doesn't seem to have a way to find out what the
signal strength of the access point you are talking to currently is. Anyone
know how to determine this?

It's not very good, and its not updated in real time. But If you click on
the new connection icon, (two arrows at the top) you'll get up to three bars
showing signal strength. Right after Wireless Card. Just above "Hide" LOL
you might need a magnifying glass to see them.

Yeah, I found that. I was looking for a display that gave me the real time
signal strength in the form of a percentage (and graph) like I had with PPC
2002. Anyone know of an add in utility that would read this out?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already have WLAN firmware version
0.100.5.39 as published via SP24979. Is this the version you are running?

(imho) wm03 supposed conmgr improvements SUCK!! we say we don't like the
static reg_key for our synchost_ip_addr in wince, they obfuscate most of the
knobs and give us conmgr in ppc02 with the convuluted rupe goldberg
dot|no_dot (total brain-fart). we tell them the obfuscation sucks, they
remove the rest of the knobs. i really don't get it.

I haven't seen wm03 yet, but I totally agree about connection manager,
and MS's "user is a monkey, and a brain-damaged monkey, too" approach. I
really dislike connection manager in ppc2002, and I really can't
understand why MS simply does not get it. We tell them we need more
control over dial-up and ethernet connections, and they say "based on
customer response, we have taken control away from users".

It remembers me about SP7 for WinNT. Sysadmins wanted it, and MS said,
after having quite completed it, that "based on customer response, SP7
will not be published". Do you see some sysadmin that uses NT and asks
MS, "please, do NOT publish SP7!"? Ridiculous.

totally agree !

I feel like config control of my WiFi LAN has been taken away...  I now have
to dig kinda deep to apply static IP etc ... sheeesh !

WHAT'S THAT ALL ABOUT ????

Not the end of the world but it certainly does seem worse from PPC02 to
PPC03... and I thought it was supposed to make it easier for the other
folks... I know what I'm doing and it made me think for a mo before I
successfully re-configured after applying PPC2003

Just my thoughts ...

keep up the good work everyone, great NG !!

learnt loads from ya!!
