What does the "Today Tmeout" do in the Today settings menu.  There is a tick
box and the choice of between 1 & 12 hours, but I do not understand what
it's purpose is. Anyone know ?

I assume you are referring to Start > Settings > Personal > Today > Items

For Pocket PC 2003, it reads
Display Today screen if device is not used for X hours

For Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition, it reads
Today timeout: X hr

where X=1 to 12 hours

It doesn't make much sense on a Pocket PC 2003 Second Edition device, does
it?  You can probably guess its meaning if you have a Pocket PC 2002 or
Pocket PC 2003 device.  What it means is if you leave your Pocket PC at a
screen other than the Today screen for X hours without using it, the Today
screen will show and take over the screen.
