Hey,
I just got a brand new vista premium laptop the other day and I love it, the
wireless is great but there is something i shouldnt be doing everytime I turn
the laptop on. I Have the wireless switch to 'on' on my laptop but when I log
into windows, it says  that it needs to be turned on, then repairs it then I
can see the list of networks. Now, I shouldn't be doing this, I just want the
internet to be connected from when i turn the computer on instead of letting
windows itself turning it on when i try to find a network. This is very
annoying, sorry its hard to explain my problem.
Please help,
Lee

Are you actually shutting it off requiring a total reboot, or just going
into standby? Since it's a laptop, try shutting the lid so it goes into
standby instead of shutting it down...

I shut it down, I don't like to put it on standby. Im quite fussy when it
comes to little things hehe. But In the wireless settings i tell windows to
keep it connected to my router, yet I always have to manually sort this out
everytime I turn my laptop on.

So in essence, you are shutting the wireless down when you shut down the
computer (if you have "keep it connected to my router", and then shut down,
it will override your selection and force a disconnect/reconnect)....
Just as an experiment, try setting the power options to go into standby when
you shut the lid instead of shutdown completely, and see if that works like
you want.... Just an aside, when vista starts up, it preloads/prefetches a
whole lot of stuff to make things a bit quicker..., most of which is very HD
intensive... It works way differently than XP's standby (that was basically
copy memory to a file for reload).... you may want to look again at what
exactly vista does differently during startup now, and see if it meets your
needs now that it has changed from xp's standby...
