When somebody tells me *why* I should want the upgrade, that it's all
completely compatable with everything I'm currently using, that it makes the
built-in apps more useable, and there's no downside, THEN I'll start to get
upset at Dell for not making it available.

I only bought my X50 a couple of weeks ago; I'm in no hurry to upgrade to
something without tangible advantages and no disadvantages.  New software is
almost always plagued with bugs, issues and "undocumented features" anyway.

The one feature that makes WM5 attractive is the loss of battery power no
longer results in a hard reset of the device.

Well, that's one mark in the "plus" column.  But I'm still not sold on the
idea until (i) Dell tell me I can have it free, like all the Americans who
bought their x50's in the same quarter as me, and (ii) it is proven to work
with all the apps I use regularly.

Richard,

There are a lot of questions regarding applications for sure.  I would check
with the developers of each of your "critical" apps to make sure the apps
are going to work or if they will have an upgrade.

Richard,

The biggest reason is likely the Persistent Storage aspect of WM5 which has
a biproduct of saving you some battery power.  There are significant
improvements to Mobile Word and Mobile Excel along with the addition of
Mobile PowerPoint.  Pocket Outlook now supports pictures for the contacts
and ActiveSync 4 can sync subfolders.

Ultimately it is each users call and you have to weigh the options.  I
personally can't wait to get my upgrade CD.

Kind Regards,
