I've seen plenty of podcasts available.  Other than the obvious "copy to
card" method, is there a utility or a way to automate the process so the
podcast is reloaded each time I hotsync?

Take a look at iPodder http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php which
has WMP support.

WMP has it's own device sync process which, according to how you set it
up, will sync podcasts received by schedule and stored on your sync pc's
hard drive.

Note, for media content files sync (read, "large files") I have found
that it works better to use a card reader, and, while the card is
inserted, it will show up as a "sync device" in windows media player on
the pc.
