I like my SPH-i700 pocket pc phone, but when listening to music with
the headphones the volume is too low even at max. Is there an amplifier
for the pocket pc phones?
Don't get fooled by this amplifier:

I bought a similar one from Radio Shack and it doesn't solve the
problem because the amplifier is made for regular headphone jacks, but
my phone has the smaller jack. Even with a bulky converter, this
amplifier made virtually NO difference.
I can't believe that there is no amplifier small, portable and suited
to the pocket pc phones! I haven't found any.
Has anyone?

my suspicion is that you have the headphones or adapter wired
incorrectly... I have no problems with any headphones using my i700.
Most likely, you are using only the pinrings on a four connector 2.5 mm
adapter... on the i700, the "collar" is the alternate stereo channel and
the 2.5mm section only has three contacts

I also assume you know that there is a tiny volume control on the
headset that ships with the i700?

Thanks. The headphones that shipped with the phone work fine, but they
aren't loud enough. I know about the tiny volume control. With all
volume controls turned up to the MAX, the sound is good, but not loud.
For example, they can't compete with an iPod.
If I am on a plane, I want loud music from my phone and leave the iPod
home.
I don't want to do any special wiring myself with any adaptors. I'd
like to buy an amplifier that plugs directly into my phone's 2.5mm
jack, plug some headphones to the amplifier and BINGO I've got loud
music!
I haven't been able to find such an amplifier.
Has anyone?

There are many headphone amplifiers in all sorts of price ranges. Most
are $100US+ and are sold to audiophile types. Here is a cheap one I
have found ($29US).

There is a review of this hardware here:

First (and seriously) I would be a bit concerned about hearing loss,
especially since your current approach is to address the need with
increased volume... a couple of moments to take a test could make a
major difference to the rest of your life.
With respect to listening on planes, look at noise blocking headsets,
the "mickey mouse" type that function as hearing protectors. Bose has
one that's pricy but have seen a number of people wearing them on
flights. By removing the noise "competition" you can hear everything at
normal volumes.
Finally, the i700 has multiple volume controls... assume you have
checked the settings in start/settings/system/volume
