How to change button functions, and where is Calc?

After I recently had to ditch my Qtek 9100 due to most of it's hardware
failing I bought a new HTC Touch-Dual with WinMob 6. It has been a very
smooth transition and I like the new PDA a lot, apart from a few annoyances
I was hoping to get help with here.

- How can I change the default browser so it I open fx. Opera instead of IE
when I press the Browser hardware button?

- The left Outlook soft-button have changed from New in WinMob 5, to Delete
in WinMob 6. Can I change it back somehow? I somehow create more mail than I
delete...

- The icon for Roaming is always visible even when I am on my home network.
I a Registry hack for WinMob 5 to disable it but cannot get it to work with
the new device. Is there some other Reg entry?
(HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\DisableRoamingIndicator
Set 1 to disable the triangle, Set 0 to enable the triangle)

- The Calculator seems to have gone missing. There is no icon in Programs
for it and I cannot find it in the Windows directory. Has it been
discontinued??

Best Regards, Kim

Use the Buttons applet in Start - Settings to reassign the IE button
to Opera.

I'm not aware on how to change the Delete button to NEW. I don't think
it's even possible.

Setting the value to 1 should do the trick. Did you restart your
device after making the change?

The calculator program is found in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder
on my device.

Thank you Linley,

There are only the 3 hardware buttons on edges of the PDA available under
Buttons. Not the ones sitting around the hardware slide-out keyboard.

Pity with the New button but no worries, I'll live without.

Yes I tried a soft-reset, but will try again if you think the Reg setting is
the correct one?

There is no calculator app in the location you mention. Anywhere I can
download it? I would rather avoid a hard-reset.

As has been explained in the Button Enhancer Bible (
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=2246&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )
, browser buttons are, in general, very hard to redefine. On the HTC
Universal, for example, it took a LOT of time to be able to "hack" it.

As far as the Touch Dual is concerned, I couldn't find any related "hacking"
thread at the Touch Dual forum (
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=402 ) of XDA-Devs. Make
sure you do some serious search (you might have more luck) and, if you don't
find anything, post a new thread in there.

Yup, this is a common question among the WM folks: to my knowledge, it's not
possible to go back to the pre-WM6 "New" from "Delete".

Are yu sure the reg setting sticks? That is, did you suspend the device
before resetting so that the reg changes are flushec back to the flash ROM?

Then, install a third-party one. I've published quite a few articles on
calculators on Windows Mobile - check out my related articles.

Not familiar with the Touch Dual, but IMHO HTC leaving out the stock
calculator is a blessing. That thing from MS hasn't changed since 2000. Just
want to suggest my personal favorite...1-Calc from Omega One Software. Yes,
it costs some $, but it is worthy of being on a state of the art PDA.

Thank you Werner.
I have read your article and realize that is is not as simple as I thought
to reassign the few buttons I need. I have installed 2 of your recommended
apps and will try to figure them out...

Thanks again Linley,
It is actually amazing what a wonderful world of Calculators I have entirely
overlooked. It is only now when I am forced to go looking for a replacement
for the - agreed - very 'basic' one in WM that I discover that one can get
calculators for;
Arrow and Bullet Trajectory, Lightning Distance, monthly payment for the
car, Body Mass Index, Hidden Carbs, Engine power and torque output,
Cardiovascular risk, Relevant fares of transport by Autorickshaw and taxi of
Mumbai, India.

Not to mention 6-circle diffractometer angle calculators, Simulation of the
design process of battleships and other warships in the first half of the
twentieth century, Symbolic derivation, Calculate IP with number of host or
subnet, Estimated birthing date for a large list of animals, and Flow
calculations of liquids in pipes.

Also I can get An eXtra Small Calculator - which is so small I cannot see
it - and about two dozen Euro converters.

But finding a simple replacement calculator that can just do the 4 basics
and has an Equal button is not that simple. Of the few I located some had
broken links and others pointed to Russian porn-sites etc.

Anyway I have now found a few that I will try.

I am a man on a Quest!

Cheers, Kim

Kim,

I didn't like the layout/color scheme of the default calculator so,
I just changed the skin to black and the = (equal sign) is on it.
I got the skin from Spb. It's part of their "unitheme" series, which
includes skins/themes for various stuff like the calculator, media player
etc.
It's called Spb Black47 and I love it, use it for the calculator, dialer and
my today screen.
Here's  the link, it has all of them and screenshots,

Thanks Jeff,
Then I just have to get a decent calculator ;-)
Incidentally I already know (and use) the spb themes, they're really good.
