My phone mfr (ETEN) will not be supplying upgrades to WM6.1. How do I get
the upgrade from Microsoft?

This is a frequently asked question. Updates to the Windows CE
operating system and platforms (like Windows Mobile) are entirely up
to the OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and a few big resellers
like the carriers. Microsoft has never sold or distributed upgrades
retail. If ETEN is not supplying the upgrade, you have no legal
option.

As Robert indicated, MS sends the updates to the carriers. It is
up to them to provide to you, and unfortunately, most don't
bother. Hopefully the Apple model of controlling the device
experience will teach MS that the carriers are generally clueless
in this regard and are far more interested in getting you to
trade up in devices, not with having you happy with your current
device.

I have one option - use the power of the web and forums advising people not
to purchase products from ETEN. As for me, time to evaluate IPHONE.

Hello,

ETEN is not the only one who doesn't offer them.  Having watched the
"upgrade olympics" for several years now, the best assumption should be that
no OEM will offer an upgrade and when they do be thrilled with your "gold".

Corollary: Think of these devices as appliances, rather than
computers, at least in terms of upgrades (not reliablity:-(

Try looking at http://www.eten-users.eu/ They likely have a "cooked"
ROM with Windows 6.1
If your service provider doesn't have an upgrade, this is your only
recourse.

Be aware of the legality issues and warranty issues of using a cooked ROM.

Your decision, I'm just sayin'....
