A storage card was inserted.  Do you want to search it for audio and video files?

I bought a new smart phone, and a storage card which I inserted.  Every time
I turn on the phone from sleep mode a Windows Media window pops up saying
that "A storage card was inserted.  Do you want to search it for audio and
video files?"  There is nothing on the card yet.  No matter whether I choose
Yes or No, it asks me again next time I need to use the device. Where can I
turn off this annoying notification?

use google groups

http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.pocketpc?hl=en

to search this group as I posted some info on this some time ago.

In general, the search generates file folders and files, some hidden
which, (I assume) "when present," will stop the question.

Suggestion... create a folder labled "Music" on the card and copy a
single wma file to that directory, answer yes to the question when you
insert it and see if that may stop it for the moment. (please report back)

That didn't stop it, but when I killed Media Player under Settings - Memory
it seems to have stopped it coming back.
Thanks,
Mich

Ah Haaa!!

Open "start", "settings" then "task manager"
(I'm assuming your smartphone is running WM).
Enable the "X" button to end running programs.

When you "close" a program (unless you do the above), you only stop the
program from displaying on the screen. It is still "running".
You found the long way stop programs!!

"Start", "settings" then "task manager" is not one of my options.under the
Personal, System or Connections tabs.

I used Open "start", "settings" then "memory", "Running Programs" and
stopped the program from running.
Is there another Task Manager somewhere else?

re the fact that the request was made when wmp was running in
background, might I ask that you start wmp again then exit so it is
still in running programs and insert a card and see if the request
reappears?

Next question, does the card now have the hidden directory named
"MSMETADATA" containing a file "XMEMediaLibrary.mlb"

Also, are there two hidden files in the card root named "WMPInfo.xml"
and "WMSyncCaps.xml" ??

I started Media player, then ejected and reinserted the card.  It asked to
search so I let it, and it found some new pictures under My Pictures.  I
then closed with the X, and out the phone to sleep.  Woke it up and there
was that message again.  Said no.  Turned in on and off a few times then it
came up again.  Seems as though I have to kill it in memory.  I cannot see
the hidden files from the phone, so will check later from the PC.

A bit more on this... think these two files may be related only to
syncing the card directly with wmp on the pc which is how I manage wm
files on ppc storage cards.
