Hi there,
I have a mobile phone (Orange SPV M500) with windows mobile 2003 installed.
It's a pocket-pc / pda kind of phone with a pen and touchscreen.
I'd like to update to the latest version of windows mobile (version 6 or 7
by now i think), and i can get my hands on various versions.
But as far as i know, i can only update with a version specificly ment for
my phone or else it wont work. And if i try to update with the wrong version
anyway, there is no way to get the phone working again or get the original
version windows mobile back on the phone.
A few days back a friend of mine told me that if i take a pda version of the
latest windows mobile, it should work. And if it doesn't i could get my old
version windows mobile back after a hard reset or from a backup made on my
pc.
Now i have got an update from orange for my phone lately and to update i had
to make a full backup and sync my phone to be shure that i got all my
contacts and other stuff working again after the update. This didn't work
quite as good as i hoped so i've gotten a bit carefull with updates and
stuff.
Can anybody help me out and tell me if i could try this newer version
windows mobile without having to throw my phone in the trash when i'm done?
Thanks

I suppose the OS is in ROM, so you would have to exchange the ROM with
another one, that also fits the hardware.
Beter and cheaper(?) buy a new phone.
