I am really starting to hate Microsoft.
For years I have accessed my hotmail on my HP iPaq rx3715 (PPC2003se)
using the HTTP provider from Adrian. Now that M$ has discontinued DAV
access, HTTP is "forbidden." So I am now using the POP3/smtp combo
which totally sucks:
1) The pop server is slower than my dead grandmother. If I have 5 e-
mails, it takes 10 seconds or more to download just the 2k snippet of
each one. By comparison, I can download the 2k snips of about 30 e-
mails in the same amount of time using Gmail's pop server.
2) M$ in its unholy alliance with cell phone carriers has made
smtp.live.com so it "pushes" your outgoing e-mails to your carrier's
smtp server so your carrier can charge you for each outgoing e-mail if
they want (and undoubtedly M$ gets a kickback on this). Problem here
is that those of us using stand-alone PDA's on wifi cannot send e-mail
at all. Why? Because cable companies do not accept the "pushed" e-
mails.
So I can explicitly set my outgoing mail to smtp.charter.net but then
when I am work I have to change it to smtp.hostcentric.com. Worse
still, I would have to set it yet again if I'm at Starbucks, again for
Panera, and again for any hotel with wifi I might be staying at.
Plus, because it's POP, I can only access the hotmail inbox. Using
HTTP I was able to sync all my folders.
I doubt M$ will be issuing a "pocket connector" anytime soon. So what
I'm hoping is that someone out there knows of a plug-in similar to
Adrian's "HTTPMail provider" that will work with DeltaSync. The only
other option I see is to set my hotmail account to forward all mail to
my Gmail which I can then access using IMAP.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have set up several clients with yahoo pro email which includes a
secure smtp server that can be configured to multiple outgoing email
addresses and have not found a better option for problems such as yours...
not free, but minimal and worth the loss of aggravations.

Use the G-mail option. You won't regret it.

I think you're right. But here's a funny one. In one of the e-mails I
sent to Hotmail support I asked if I could forward my hotmail to my
gmail and they told me "no":
"Thank you for writing back to Microsoft Mobile Support. Hotmail does
not have the option of auto forwards any non-MSN email service."
You gotta wonder when the support staff knows so little about the
product they are supposed to be supporting.
I am 95% certain I will forward to gmail and include an outgoing sig
telling people to update their address books. After 15 years I am
saying "goodbye" to hotmail.
Cheers.
