I uninstalled/reinstalled WMDC as instructed at http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1817208&SiteID=17 and for the time being I seem to be able to sync again. I'll continue to try syncing for the next week or so to ensure it continues to work and I'll report back on my results.
There are dozens and dozens of posts for this all over the Internet and no one seems to have a solution that genuinely works. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 with Windows Mobile Device Center v6 or v6.1 and I have a Samsung SCH-i760 running Windows Mobile v6.1. When I connect my device and attempt to sync it fails and an event is posted in the application log that says, "Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)." I've tried everything: uninstalling/reinstalling WMDC, uninstalling/disabling firewalls, hard resets of my device, deletion/recreation of partnerships and nothing works. The only way I can get my device to sync is to delete its partnership and create a new partnership, after which it syncs once and then goes back to failing again. Someone out there must have a true solution to this problem. Please help.
