I am running Microsoft Mobile 5.0 Phone Edition on a XV6700 Pocket PC Phone.
I have installed and activated Microsoft Reader v2.4.1
I have opened two unprotected ebooks just fine.
When I try to open a protected ebook I buy from Amazon I can see it in the

MS reader on an SD card.  When I start the reader, It says that it has not
been activated and I can start unprotected files but not protected.

My old PPC died and I bought a new one just like it.  Luckily, I keep
everything on my SD card so I didn't loose much.  The little I lost is
probably stashed on my desktop via active sync; I haven't looked into
that yet.
