Hello,
Here are a few AV software that are available for PPC2003:
http://www.airscanner.com/
http://www.f-secure.com/wireless/pocketpc/pocketpc-av.shtml
Any particular reason you want to install the AV ??
The reason why I am asking is that a Desktop computer virus will not affect
your mobile device since it is running a different operating system.
Although your ipaq could carry the virus-infected file, the virus would not
actually infect data or programs on your device. If you feel that the
device is infected, you can always reset the device to its factory default
settings... i.e. perform a hard reset.

The first thing I'd ask any company before I shelled out the money for an AV
program would be "What viruses will this program protect me against?". I'd
suspect the list of PPC viruses would be quite small. So the AirScanner
one, being free, might be worthwhile, but I'd sure hesitate to shell out $40
for the f-secure one (plus the subscription). And how do they know their
products actually work, if there are no viruses yet?
Better yet, you send me $40, and I'll send you a sticker for your PPC that
says you're protected against all known PPC viruses. How's that? :)

Hi Clint
Thanks for your comments. Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought my PC antivirus
(Norton) seemed to be detecting viruses when I connect to my iPAQ. Maybe
not!
But I'll take you up on your offer. Please find $40 attached! ;-)

Hi
The reason I'm looking for something is that despite having Norton running
on my PC, I'm getting an increasing number of virus-laden emails. It seems
sometimes that Norton discovers one particular virus (Netsky?) when I
connect the PPC through ActiveSync.
But maybe I'm imagining it?
Thanks very much for your comments.

DG,
The issue at hand is your PPC acting as a fomite.
Forgive me, I'm a microbiology professor and this explanation comes easiest
to me. A fomite is a nonliving object which can transmit disease. One
example might be a glass that someone with a communicable disease drinks
from. Drinking from that glass might infect you. At no particular point
however would you be overly concerned for the health and well being of the
glass, it's not likely to develop disease symptoms itself. The glass is a
fomite - it can serve as a carrier for disease.
There are (to my knowledge) no known PPC viruses, but I like many often tap
into my wireless router and download emails for initial viewing on my iPAQ.
These emails may still be on the iPAQ when I next sync. Any virus infected
messages are not scanned on my iPAQ since I do not have AV sofware on my
PPC. I do however keep my laptop and desktop very tightly protected with
VERY frequent updates for virus definitions.
So, your PPC is probably safe without its own protection. Make sure your
primary computer is well protected and you should be ok.
The one scenario that occurs to me, as I type this to you would be messages
received initially on the PPC and forwarded from that device to other
people. In that scenario you might unwittingly pass an infected message
along to someone else. So, ask yourself how often you might receive mail on
the PPC and feel that you just "have" to forward it right that second
without waiting until you can send it from a protected machine.

Terry
Thanks for that very interesting explanation. As a microbiology graduate
(many years ago), I understand!
